Higher sugar intake significantly increases both the systolic (top number) and the diastolic (bottom number) blood pressure in trials lasting more than 8 weeks. When studies that were funded by the sugar industry were not included in the review, differences of 7.6 mm Hg in systolic blood pressure and 6.1 mm Hg in diastolic blood pressure were observed.
